I showed that electrobooklet of Kitty Bobo to some guys at one of those cartoon networks and they said "cool, let's see some stories".

Well that was a while back now (it takes time to come up with the stories).

This one idea, a riff on a chase cartoon starring Kitty Bobo and Alice Rat, had been in my mind and it started to develop on paper the way it usually does, for me at least, mostly drawings of the characters, just figuring them out, them some words, then drawing out some ideas and specific moments. I ended up wanting to go in a different direction with Kitty Bobo as a whole but I like the way Alice Rat looks in some of these drawings. Ha, there's some real dead ones in the mix too, as always...

(first starting by writing some ideas, then just drawing some Alice, trying to figure her out)

(and then starting to draw characters from possible moments in the story, with varying degrees of succes, like for instance note the nasty super-wooden alice in the upper middle, below.)

So some ideas there, maybe enough to turn into a short, maybe not. Regardless though, for a few pages the characters came to life and interacted a little and that's always good.

I'd like to thank Amid Amidi for the mention on Cartoon Brew.

But I think "decent" is perhaps too generous a word to describe the storytelling in the pilot. When there's an overemphasis on style, the storytelling is bound to suffer a little. "Loose" or "sloppy" might be more accurate.

But the style was pretty dope, huh? Credit for that belongs to BG layout artist Dan Krall, painters Tim Maloney and Anna Chambers, and art director Meaghan Dunn.

Kitty Bobo v3.0

After finishing up a gig storyboarding over at Nick on El Tigre I spent the last week thinking about and drawing Kitty Bobo. The result is this 50 page electrobooklet here.

Since moving 2 weeks ago I will no longer need to put up with scenes such as this.

colored blocks live in a space
they move around, search for mates, and reproduce

you can play it here

some test drawings for a upcoming feature from a new kid on the studio block.

the genre of the film, a sort of gothic horror, is not necessarily my cup of tea, but it was nice to try and stretch a bit.

this is a poster that i put together for a pitch to disney tv.

unfortunately, they didn't go for it.

but, it was really enjoyable to work on. and thanks to mike moon for giving kitty bobo a little bit of life after cartoon network.

who's next? nickelodeon?

or wait no. youtube!
